Lab Rats at ILA presents Bootleg
In 2024, the Bootleg artists were awarded an inaugural ILA Artist Fund Access Grant for the development of new immersive work for ILA’s Studio. This Lab Rats session is an opportunity to see a demo of their work-in-progress, hear about the concepts and technology behind the work, and to have hands-on experience with the emerging technologies being developed.
The development has been across multiple disciplines. These include text-based works exploring consciousness and the fragmentation and re-synthesis of the self, a workflow in which AI transposes spoken word into moving text and reinterprets it as images in real time, as well as accompanying sound works and procedurally- generated visuals based on chaos theory.
Who are Bootleg?
Bootleg, a multidisciplinary artist collective, formed as a result of Lab Rats in 2023, brings together talents from dance, theatre, digital arts, sound, and immersive technologies.

What is Lab Rats?
Lab Rats is ILA’s public program focused on creative tech, shared learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration as a series of workshops, artist presentations, networking sessions, and discussion panels.
With an emphasis on developing creative communities, Lab Rats fosters a network of emerging and established artists, providing opportunities for participants to upskill, reskill and learn new skills, build portfolios and make connections that expand creative and career prospects within the creative industry.
