Hill Smith Art Advisory return to our Gallery to present Brenton Drechsler‘s new exhibition Stripes 7 – Inside Out.
Stripes 7 – Inside Out reflects Brenton’s growing ease with his own company, shaped by queer subjectivity, lived experience, and the quiet rhythms of daily life. Through recurring striped motifs and evolving narrative elements, this exhibition traces a year of inhabiting spaces both internal and physical, with Brenton’s art practice offering comfort, continuity, and a deeper sense of being at home with himself.
Brenton Drechsler is an Australian, emerging contemporary visual artist. His practice explores notions of orientation, personal narrative and opacity through the subjective lens of his queer identity.
Explore Brenton Drechsler’s practice further in our Studio, featuring a newly commissioned short film capturing the artist at work in his Adelaide Hills studio created by Iris Seraya and Simon Cadman of Studio Seraya. Commissioned by Hill Smith Art Advisory in collaboration with Brenton Drechsler, the film offers an intimate glimpse into his creative process. This is complemented by a digital showcase of earlier paintings, alongside reflective commentary from the artist.

HOW TO GET HERE
Immersive Light and Art | ILA is located in the heart of Adelaide’s West End at 63 Light Square. The ILA Gallery and Studio can be found upstairs on level 1, accessible by stairs or lift.
A combination of free and ticketed (until 6pm) street parking is available directly outside the venue on Light Square, with additional parking available nearby on Waymouth Street and Elizabeth Street, both just a short walk away. For added convenience, K Park Car Parks on Currie Street is also located close to this venue.
ILA is also easily accessible via public transport, with bus, tram and train options within walking distance. We are a short walk from the North Terrace and King William Road tram stops, Adelaide Railway Station and have multiple bus routes operating along nearby Currie Street.
ACCESS INFORMATION
The ILA Gallery and Studio is located on level 1 of Immersive Light and Art | ILA. There is level access via a lift to the first floor and a unisex accessible toilet is available on level 1 to ensure a comfortable experience for all guests.
