These programs reduce barriers to participation, encourage artistic experimentation, and foster a connected community of artists working across immersive, experimental, and technology-led practices.
ILA Artist Residencies provide cash and in-kind support for artists to research, experiment, and develop new work. Residencies give artists the time, space and resources to explore new creative possibilities using immersive technologies in ILA’s purpose-built facilities. The program supports artists across disciplines to develop ambitious new work and engage audiences in innovative ways.
Lab Rats is a workshop series that creates an open and accessible space for artists and creative technologists to share knowledge, develop skills and build professional networks. Peer-led and community-focused, Lab Rats supports creative collaboration and lifelong learning.
These artist-centred programs support both emerging and established practitioners, helping to nurture the next generation of creative leaders.

ILA ARTIST RESIDENCIES IN ART AND TECHNOLOGY
Since its establishment in 2021, ILA has paid in excess of $1,000,000 dollars directly to artists.
Through combining creative practice, technology and food artistry, ILA offers multi-sensory experiences at the forefront of immersive arts for both artists and audiences. ILA is truly unique.
The ILA Artist Residencies support artists to expand their practice by providing the time, resources and access to ILA’s extraordinary facilities, enabling practitioners to engage with the rapidly growing global field of immersive arts and entertainment. Through cash grants and in‑kind support, artists can experiment, research and develop new work using immersive technologies in ILA’s purpose‑built spaces. With a call for applications scheduled for July, up to three residencies will be available to selected artists across disciplines, enabling them to stretch their imagination, explore new creative possibilities and connect with new audiences through immersive, technology‑driven experiences.
Over a 12-month period, 3xresident artists will be supported with $5K cash and access to ILA’s unique, nation-leading facilities and technical expertise worth $20K.
ILA strengthens a sustainable creative ecosystem that empowers artists, contributes to the global evolution of immersive arts, and positions Adelaide as a leading centre for immersive cultural experiences.
ILA is seeking donations of up to $30,000 that will support the cash grant component ($15,000) and offset costs associated with making the immersive studio available for artists ($15,000). ILA provides the balancing value of the project in-kind.
