Inspired by Maurizio Cattelan’s Comedian, Deaf in One Eye interrogates how value is constructed in the contemporary art world, and who ultimately decides what deserves to be celebrated. Created by award winning artist Matthew Quick, the exhibition brings together paintings and sculptures that will provoke and challenge.
Beyond Quick’s striking canvases, you’re invited into a unique immersive digital animation by award-winning creative production studio Monkeystack. Drawing on themes and motifs from the artist’s earlier work, these animations offer a rare opportunity to step inside Quick’s ideas, experiencing his practice in an entirely new dimension.

Relaxed Sessions
Relaxed sessions are specifically designed to make our events accessible for neurodiverse audiences, the Autistic community, and individuals with sensory needs. They have reduced capacity, lowered sound levels, and clear signage and audiences are invited to enjoy the experience in their own way.
Companion Cards
We honour the Companion Card scheme. Card holders are entitled to a second ticket to this event for their companion at no cost.
Tickets must be booked in advance via our website. Please purchase a zero price “Companion Card” ticket when making your booking and present your Card on the day with your ticket at the ILA Bar.
Venue Access
The ILA Gallery, Studio and Bar is accessible by both stairs and level access by elevator. An accessible unisex bathroom is also available on each floor of the venue.

Located next to the exhibition on level 1, the ILA Bar will offer refreshments during opening hours.

GETTING HERE
We are conveniently positioned on Light Square, a brief stroll from Adelaide Railway Station and also accessible via several nearby bus and tram routes.
Ticketed on-street parking spaces become complimentary after 6pm on weekdays and after 12pm on Saturdays. And undercover and open-air paid parking options are available at the adjacent Light Square K-Parks.
