Elsewhere in India [Adelaide Fringe]

Thurs - Sat

20 Feb - 22 Feb

Multiple Times

An amalgamation of 3D video games, Al-generated art, motion-captured dance, futuristic stories + archives from India featuring special guest artist Parvyn. Heritage, science + society intertwined with Indian electro-classical dance music.

Elsewhere in India is an electrifying drum & bass-inspired audiovisual journey into a near-future India, where the echoes of culture teeter on the edge of extinction. At its heart is Meenakshi, a cultural cyborg born to preserve and revive Indian heritage. Joined by a crew of remix artists, she sets out to reclaim a fragmented world through a dynamic fusion of 3D video game aesthetics, AI-generated art, motion-captured classical dance, and a post-cyberpunk narrative.

This groundbreaking project is the brainchild of Indian electronica pioneers Murthovic (music producer/DJ) and Thiruda (visual artist/VJ), whose collaboration redefines storytelling through the lens of Indofuturism. Originally seeded by the British Council’s India/UK Season of Culture 2022-23, Elsewhere in India envisions 2079 AD as a vibrant yet precarious intersection of heritage, science, and society.

Murthovic and Thiruda are celebrated for their ability to bridge tradition and technology, creating immersive experiences that amplify cultural narratives while embracing digital innovation. In Elsewhere in India, they deliver a mesmerising performance that pulses with the energy of electro-classical dance music, pushing the boundaries of both art and storytelling.

Featuring special guest artist PARVYN, prepare to step into a world where the future is as rich with possibility as it is charged with urgency—a world where sound, movement, and visuals converge to reimagine what it means to preserve culture in a digital age.

‘One of the standout performances took place on the first day, as Elsewhere In India—a collaboration between local virtuosos Murthovic and Thiruda—debuted their idiosyncratic display of sitar and flute, weaving nimble melodies around rugged bass and ’90s techno rhythms.’ Resident Advisor
