LAB RATS x Dave Court: Intro to Touchdesigner for Artist and Musicians

Tues

21 Jan - 11 Feb

5pm - 8pm

LAB RATS returns! Powered by a community partnership with Lumo SA, ILA is excited to announce our next series of hands on workshops with a focus on creative tech, shared learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Across 4 weeks, Kaurna Yerta based artist Dave Court will share foundational knowledge of interactive media software – Touchdesigner. Aimed at creatives of all disciplines and with a focus on interactive and immersive outcomes, each week will have a different focus and approach. Please register for each session.

Week 1 [Tues, January 21st]:

Intro to Touchdesigner: Open Touchdesigner and become familiar with its layout and functionality, perhaps for the first time! Learn simple tools and explore their potential application.

Week 2 [Tues, January 28th]:

Importing and Manipulating Imagery: Bring in an artwork, image, photo or video and we will examine ways of animating, manipulating or building from this input in Touchdesigner.

Week 3 [Tues, February 4th]:

Audio Reactivity: Learn how to drive animation or generate visual content from a piece of music, recorded sound, or microphone input.

Week 4 [Tues, February 11th]:

3D World: Extend the skills learnt across previous sessions to explore the third dimension! Bring your own 3D .obj file or use basic buiding blocks within touchdesigner to make a composition. Learn how to place light and animate simple 3D objects in a scene.

Whilst each workshop is designed to be standalone in nature, it is recommended participants register for all 4 events as each build on concepts discussed the week prior.

Who is Dave Court?

Dave Court is a visual artist living on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, Australia. Working across painting, sculpture and installation his practice ranges from large-scale public art to cross-media projects.

Central to his practice is an exploration of how social structures and systems are shaped by evolving technologies, and a commitment to the radical possibilities of shared experience.‍
