ILA is excited to announce our 2025 series of hands-on workshops with a focus on creative tech, shared learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A 3-week workshop series introducing the creative possibilities of immersive technology through hands-on Virtual Reality experience design. Participants will build interactive VR environments, create and implement custom 3D models and program a virtual gallery to display their own portfolios.
Designed specifically for emerging creatives, this program demonstrates how VR can be a powerful artistic medium, opening new ways to tell stories, showcase work, and connect with audiences. Participants will explore professional-grade VR tools and software in an accessible, supportive environment, gaining practical skills and inspiration to integrate immersive media into their creative practice.

***Week 1 [Tues, June 17th]:
Into the Headset: Exploring VR as a Creative Tool
Introduction to fundamentals of VR through hands on exploration. Participants will begin building their first immersive environment using accessible creation tools.
***Week 2 [Tues, June 24th]:
Sculpt Your Vision: 3D Modelling for Immersive Spaces
Introduction to 3D modelling tools and integration of 3D elements into VR.
***Week 3 [Tues, July 1st]:
Virtual Showcase: Building a Virtual Gallery
Participants will learn how to design and program a virtual art gallery to create a digital exhibition space for displaying their own portfolios.

What is Reality Bytes Media?
Reality Bytes Media is a youth-led company equipping the next generation with future-ready digital skills through immersive technologies like Virtual Reality (VR). Founded by 21-year-old immersive media student and entrepreneur Cameron Coggins, Reality Bytes delivers engaging workshops—such as Headset Heroes—in collaboration with South Australian councils and organisations including the City of Marion, City of Mitcham, Flinders, and Carclew. Cameron’s expertise is shaped by academic studies, industry experience, and community involvement, and is recognised through multiple innovation and education awards, like the University of Adelaide Business School Award for Innovation & Creativity. Through workshops, consulting, and VR app development, Reality Bytes Media is inspiring young creators and helping organisations unlock the potential of immersive tech.

What is Lab Rats?
Lab Rats is ILA’s public program focused on creative tech, shared learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration as a series of workshops, artist presentations, networking sessions, and discussion panels.
With an emphasis on developing creative communities, Lab Rats fosters a network of emerging and established artists, providing opportunities for participants to upskill, reskill and learn new skills, build portfolios and make connections that expand creative and career prospects within the creative industry.
