Lab Rats Reimagined & Reintroduced

In 2021, ILA’s creative community program Lab Rats was established, providing an avenue for Adelaide’s creative minds to explore the unique and diverse technological opportunities available at The Lab.

Through collaboration, experimentation and the influence of a growing community around the project, Lab Rats has continued to evolve over time.

In 2024 after compiling feedback from members past and present, and in partnership with Lumo Energy, we are thrilled to announce a reimagining of Lab Rats from its roots as an experimental creative club into an expanded public program with activities to include workshops, artist talks, presentations and more.

Our vision is to build an inclusive and dynamic community where creatives from diverse disciplines can unite in collaboration, driven by a shared passion for exploring the boundaries of what is possible.

Returning Tuesday the 21st of May, Lab Rats will launch with the first in a series of hands-on workshops, designed to explore practical application of skills-based learning within the emerging field of immersive tech.

Presenting the first workshop series is one of the founding facilitators of the original Lab Rats program, Max Brading. Across 5 weeks, participants will gain a foundational knowledge of Touchdesigner with a focus on interactive and immersive outcomes for creatives of all disciplines.

Max is a multimedia artist specializing in interactive art, immersive media and creative tech integration. With a diverse range of skills including digital design, sonic art, and interactive installation, Max’s experience allows them to connect and create using technology across disciplines.

Backed by extensive knowledge in Touchdesigner, Max will share their experience in creating interactive works, and the process of integrating with The Labs 50sqm of LED screens.

Over 5 weeks, participants will learn the fundamentals of Touchdesigner, covering visual, audio, 3D and interactivity for use in immersive environments. Thanks to support from ILA and Lumo Energy these workshops are free to attend however registration to each workshop is required. For the best outcome it is recommended that you register for all 5 sessions
